Project
Structural Glass Design were commissioned to deliver bespoke structural glass link systems as part of the award-winning restoration and redevelopment of Templemore Baths in Belfast. The project required the sensitive integration of contemporary frameless glazing within the historic Victorian architecture, creating light-filled glazed connections between the restored original building and the new extension spaces. Engineered using high-performance structural glass and minimal framing details, the glass links were designed to preserve clear sightlines and maximise natural light while complementing the heritage character of the baths complex. The Challenge
The Templemore Baths project required the integration of contemporary structural glass link systems within a historically significant Victorian building undergoing extensive restoration and redevelopment. The challenge was to create modern glazed connections between the original 1893 baths complex and the new extension areas while preserving the architectural character and heritage value of the existing structure. The glazing systems needed to achieve minimal visual impact, maximise natural light and maintain clean uninterrupted sightlines, all while accommodating structural movement, thermal performance and long-term durability within a busy public building.
The Solution
Structural Glass Design engineered and installed bespoke frameless structural glass link systems specifically designed to complement the restored heritage architecture of Templemore Baths. Using high-performance structural glazing with minimal supporting framework, the glass links created bright transparent connections between old and new elements of the development while maintaining the visual prominence of the original Victorian fabric. Precision detailing and specialist installation techniques ensured seamless integration with the surrounding building structure, delivering a contemporary architectural solution that balanced modern performance requirements with the sensitive restoration of this landmark Belfast project.
